Close interval potential surveys (CIPS) are the backbone of pipeline integrity. They determine the effectiveness of the cathodic protection system which provides protection against corrosion. Close interval potential surveys should be taken on a regular basis in accordance with NACE International Recommended Practices. CIPS surveys are the first line of defense in corrosion monitoring of pipelines and are used to validate and maintain the integrity of your asset. Unlike internal inspections that indicate where corrosion has occurred, CIPS surveys indicate where corrosion will occur and allow pipeline operators the opportunity to improve their cathodic protection system to eliminate external corrosion |
