PCR (Polarization Cell Replacement) provides DC decoupling and AC continuity / grounding when used with cathodically protected structures. It is a solid-state device which can be applied instead of the Traditional Polarization Cells. Comparing with the traditional one, there are a number of merits offered by PCR:

• PCR is an electronically based equip that does not need the use of hazardous acid (KOH).
• As mentioned, the traditional tool is an electrochemical switch containing KOH and thus it needs the regular maintenance of the fluid level, while PCR requires no maintenance.
• The maximum amount of blocking voltage offered by Liquid-filled Polarization Cell is about 1.2 V. In contrast, PCR has the capability of blocking the DC voltage up to 3 volt.
